The fastest way to waste money on Meta is scaling before you’ve found a winner. Here’s how I structure testing campaigns to find profitable creatives cheaply — and know exactly when to scale.

Why most accounts burn budget

The usual mistake: launch one campaign, one ad set, a handful of creatives, and a budget that's too high to actually learn anything before the money is gone. Testing needs structure, not hope.

The testing structure I use

Each test campaign runs multiple ad sets with a single variable changed at a time — creative, audience, or offer — so you actually know what moved the number, not just that something did.

  • Small daily budget per ad set, just enough to exit learning phase
  • One variable isolated per test, never multiple at once
  • A clear kill metric decided before launch, not after

Reading the signals correctly

Cost per result in the first 3–4 days tells you almost nothing reliable. We wait for enough spend per ad set before making a call — usually tied to a multiple of your target cost per result, not a fixed day count.

Graduating a winner to scaling

A creative only moves into the scaling campaign once it has proven itself at the test budget. At that point, the rules change from "find a winner" to "protect and grow a winner" — covered in our scaling playbook.

Testing isn’t a phase you rush through — it’s the cheapest insurance against burning budget on a guess.
